Do It Yourself Ant Extermination:
|
ANTS: |
Ants: To most of us, all ants look alike. However, there are different species with unique characteristics which influences the method of ant extermination. They exceed the number of all other insects and they feed on almost anything consumed by humans. Ants invade our homes, contaminate food, build unsightly mounds, and can cause structural damage to our property. Without ant pest control, some ants pose life-threatening health risks for people who are hypersensitive or allergic to insect stings. See all ant control products

Carpenter ants usually invade and nest in wet, decayed wood. They commonly excavate galleries or tunnels in rotting wood, in structures, readily infest wood, foam insulation and cavities. They are often found in conjunction with moisture problems. It is important to locate the nest. The appearance of large numbers of Carpenter Ants indicate the nest is in the structure.
Control can be achieved by an integrated approach involving moisture elimination, and mechanical alterations to prevent entry. Search firewood piles and stumps for signs of Carpenter ants. Treat the nest, if you can find it, with a residual spray like Phantom (A0006) or dust like Drione Dust (A0123) or Delta Dust (A0003). Infestations can be reduced, not eliminated, by treating the outside trails with Advance Carpenter Ant Bait (A0103). Perimeter barrier treatments with a microencapsulated product like Onslaught ME (A0165) will help.

Odorous House ants can produce hundreds of laying queens and thousands of workers, creating colonies ranging in size to over 100,000 ants. To prevent entry seal cracks and gaps in exterior walls. Odorous House ants tend to nest in wall and floor voids and around heat sources.
Control can be achieved by removing debris from around the structure, following ant trails to locate outside nests and treating with a liquid drench like Conquer Insecticide (A0009). You can use this product to treat indoors as well by treating cracks and crevices.

Fire ants build large mounds, have large populations and their sting can be painful and dangerous to someone who is hypersensitive to its sting. Fire ants can also live in structures and are attracted to electrical junction boxes such as A/C units and traffic signals. Some nest in typical ant habitats such as under stones, landscape timbers, in voids and around foundations.
Control can be achieved by applying liquid residual spray such as Demon Max (A0136) or waterproof dust like Delta Dust (A0003) to the outside perimeter of the structure. However this is not as effective as treating the nest itself. The most successful method is applying Extinguish Plus Fire Ant Bait (A0269)
