These spiders have a characteristic fiddle-shaped pattern on their head region. The spider is golden brown with the fiddle being dark brown or black and often shiny.
Habitat
They commonly live in basements, garages, attics, and cluttered closets. In infested areas, the spiders, their eggs sacs, and shed skin are often found. They can live behind walls between joists, sills, and under insulation; in crevices behind and beneath beds, furniture, closets, clothing, shoes, and other stored items. They can also live above suspended ceilings, behind baseboards, and in heat ducts and registers.
Health Risks
The most severe reactions to Brown Recluse venom are more common in children and the elderly. The initial bite is often painless and the affected area can become red, swollen, and tender. The victim can develop a dry, sinking lesion and experience fever, chills, dizziness, rash, or vomiting. If bitten by a Brown Recluse spider, apply ice, elevate the affected area, and seek medical attention immediately. Having a clear brown recluse spider picture, will help in keeping you and your family safe.
Property Damage
The Brown Recluse spider does not cause property damage or infest food products.
Prevention
Reduce clutter to eliminate places for the spiders to hide. Install tight-fitting screens on doors and windows and door sweeps. Seal cracks around the foundation of your structure. Install yellow light bulbs in outside light fixtures to reduce the number of insects for the spider to feed upon.
