Dampwood Termites (infests wet or damp wood) Dampwood termites nest in wood buried in the ground or where wood is high in moisture, such as in fallen trees or tree stumps. These termites are larger than many other termite species and they rapidly form large colonies. Dampwood termites do not require require earth-to-wood contact so the wood they infest must have a very high moisture content. Control can be achieved by removing the damp or wet wood, fixing the leaks and treating the areas of infestation with Bora Care (A0058)

Drywood Termites (can survive in very dry wood) Drywood termites have a low moisture requirement and can tolerate dry conditions for long periods. They are a non subterranean species and remain above ground and do not connect their nests to the soil as do many other termite species. Drywood termites usually swarm at night and are light yellowish-brown. They feed across the grain of the wood, creating chambers and/or galleries. When you find their galleries you will most likely find it packed with fecal pellets.

Formosan Termites (most destructive)
Formosan's termites are a Subterranean species that build earthen-shelter tubes and carton nest consisting of soil and wood cemented together with saliva and feces to protect themselves from low humidity and predators. Formosan termites are among the most aggressive species in attacking wood and they're large colonies can easily reach one million members. This is the most destructive termite species which infest structures with-in the US.
Control can be achieved by soil treatment with Termidor SC (A0007) and removal of the cartons. If carton removal is impossible you should treat it with a residual insecticide such as Phantom (A0006).

Subterranean Termites (most common)
Subterranean Termites build earthen-shelter tubes that are up to an inch wide and can be found in crawl spaces and inside and outside slab foundations. Subterranean termites usually are located in the soil from which workers build mud tubes to structural wood where they can feed.
Subterranean termites may go unnoticed until the winged reproductives "swarm" from or inside a structure. The presence of a swarm is a good indication there is a well established termite infestation in the structure.
Control can be achieved by removing wood to ground contact and treating with Termidor SC (A0007) or putting is an Advance Termite Bait System (A0112)
